Match of the Day

Affies claw back to edge Boishaai

The dramatic finish to the Wildeklawer Festival saw Affies execute a stunning comeback, overturning a significant 23-5 half-time deficit to beat Boishaai 40-37 on Monday. The momentum shifted dramatically after the break, proving that the top schools are anything but settled.

Boishaai dominated the opening half, staking an early claim through tries scored by Liam de Villiers and Wian Delport to establish a robust lead. While Affies struggled to find their rhythm initially, they found a way to join the contest when Dandre Brink got on the scoreboard. The second forty minutes belonged entirely to the Roos. Ewald van Niekerk scored the breakthrough moment, followed by sustained pressure that resulted in a crucial penalty try.

The game became a nail-biter battle of wills. Boishaai managed to fight back briefly through Dante Davis, but Affies maintained the intensity. Rico du Plessis crossed, keeping the scores tight, ensuring the drama escalated until the final whistle. The comeback effort saw the Roos display championship character, proving that even when faced with a commanding deficit, the tenacity of the team was enough to secure the dramatic 40-37 victory.

Player of the Match
Ciaran Killian (Scoring the try of the match for Grey High in their festival thriller win.)
