Match of the Day

Stellenberg overcomes a 10-point deficit in Cape Town

Stellenberg proved that a championship run is rarely built on predictable rhythm, storming back to defeat Paul Roos after trailing by ten points at the half. Despite going into the break down 10-0, the Jade Brigade cornered the opposition in the second stanza, establishing a dominant physical presence. The comeback was meticulously executed, fueled by key attacking movements and set-piece conversions.

Right wing Ralton Rhode opened the scoring to kickstart the momentum. Crucially, the try-scoring threat broadened as lock Juvan Burden and tighthead prop Janu Venter added successive tries, dismantling the early Paul Roos defence. The comeback was sealed by flyhalf Ethan van Biljon, who slotted a vital penalty goal to complete the points swing. This stunning turnaround shows the mental fortitude required at the highest level of school rugby.

The win follows other notable victories, including Maritzburg College’s commanding 33-13 victory over Glenwood. These results underscore a deeply competitive season where nothing is safe, and momentum is everything.

Talking Point
Grey College suffered their three successive defeats, marking the first time since 2015 they have been defeated in three consecutive matches, despite a strong effort that saw JG Horn and Louis Koen score early tries.
