WALES WOMEN

The Match

This was not simply a win; it was a masterclass in controlled escalation. From the opening moments, England Women established early dominance, striking first at 6 minutes with a try from Maddie Feaunati, which was quickly turned into a two-score lead after Helena Rowland converted. The quick succession continued when Millie David struck at 12 minutes, building the score to a seemingly unstoppable 12-0.

Wales responded immediately, showing the grit expected of the Welsh women, with Keira Bevan finding the breakthrough try at 16 minutes. After converting her own score, the deficit stood at 12-7. The scoreboard remained tight until the 24th minute when Marlie Packer expanded the lead for the Lionesses. The momentum swung violently back towards England, with Megan Jones adding another score at 27 minutes, before the halftime break saw England holding a commanding 24-7 lead.

The second half began with Wales finding a flicker of fight. Kelsey Jones managed to pull the score back to 24-12 at 32 minutes. Just when the momentum seemed to have shifted entirely to the Dragons, Megan Jones scored her second try at 39 minutes, restoring England's cushion to 29-12. The rhythm of the scoring accelerated after the 45th minute. Amy Cokayne found the net shortly after the break, and Rowland converted again to make it 36-12. The next period was sheer English onslaught, with Claudia Moloney-MacDonald scoring at 52 minutes, followed by Jess Breach at 62 minutes. The final quarter saw England extend their lead to 55-12 through successive tries from Marlie Packer and Maud Muir. The pace only ramped up when Zoe Harrison converted after Maud Muir’s try at 75 minutes, putting England up 60-19. The Welsh attack managed one last burst of brilliance, with Bethan Lewis finding a try at 73 minutes, and Keira Bevan securing a further conversion to make the score 55-19. However, England found the killer blow with a final try from Maud Muir at 75 minutes, sealing the victory margins. The Yellow Card issued to Kayleigh Powell at 51 minutes, while significant, did nothing to halt the English scoring machine.

The Verdict

The 62-24 scoreline speaks volumes about the physical and tactical gulf between the two sides on the day. England Women showed every facet of their modern game, scoring relentlessly and suffocating opposition chances, while Wales struggled to maintain cohesion and resist the sheer volume of attack thrown their way.
